The town of Ayetoro Gbede, nestled in the expansive region of Okunland, faces a critical healthcare crisis. With a land area of over 10,000 square kilometers, more than 200 communities, and a population of approximately 1 million people, the current healthcare infrastructure is woefully inadequate. Ayetoro Gbede, home to over 20,000 individuals, is serviced by only three doctors who are not available round the clock, and the existing facilities lack essential resources such as laboratories, X-ray machines, and modern diagnostic equipment. To compound the issue, the community anticipates a significant population increase, with a projected annual growth rate exceeding 5% due to ongoing socio-economic developments in the area. Recognizing the urgent need for improved healthcare services, the intervention of the Ayetoro Gbede Network (AGN) has become critical.
Proposed Solution: To address the healthcare gap in Ayetoro Gbede and cater to the wider Okunland region, the AGN proposes the establishment of a new hospital. Situated in Ayetoro Gbede, which boasts a central location and easy accessibility from neighboring towns, the hospital will serve as a crucial healthcare hub. The proposed facilities within the hospital include:
- Reception, Outpatient Department (OPD), Administration, and Accounts
- Wards: Emergency, Labor, Pediatric, and Inpatient
- A conference hall with a seating capacity of 100
- Pharmacy
- Laboratory and Radiology department
- Phlebotomy Room for blood sample collection
- Dedicated area for Doctors’ Quarters, encouraging AGN members to adopt the construction of residential units
- X-ray room
- Operating Theatre
- Nurse Lounge
- Consulting Rooms
- Two Courtyards for patient relaxation and outdoor activities
Cost Estimation: The construction of the proposed cottage hospital is estimated to require an initial investment of approximately N500 million for the first phase. To support this endeavor, the AGN has already acquired about 48 hectares of land along the Ayetoro Gbede – Ilorin Road. Equipping the hospital with necessary medical equipment and facilities is expected to cost around N250 million.
To ensure the sustainable operation of the hospital, an estimated annual running cost of N50 million has been projected. In order to provide a solid foundation for the hospital’s operations from its inception, the AGN aims to raise N150 million, which will cover at least three years of running costs.
Conclusion: The establishment of a new hospital in Ayetoro Gbede is an urgent and essential endeavor to address the healthcare challenges faced by the community and the wider Okunland region. By providing comprehensive medical facilities, specialized services, and a dedicated team of healthcare professionals, this hospital will improve the quality of life for thousands of people. The AGN appeals to individuals, organizations, and philanthropists to join hands in supporting this critical initiative and contribute towards the construction, equipping, and sustainable operation of the hospital. Together, we can create a healthier and more resilient community, ensuring access to vital healthcare services for generations to come.
